Shut-Off and Isolation
We close a seized or buried meter tap for you, drain the line down, and confirm every fixture in the house, tap by tap, runs dry before any repair work begins.
Plumber Taigum fixes burst pipes throughout Taigum and the adjoining streets, licensed for plumbing and gasfitting under QBCC No: 15024607, and provides a fixed quote before work begins. A line you cannot shut off is the one job that never waits.
If we're late, $100 comes off your bill
Every minute counts when a line splits, so do these four things before anything else:
If water is coming down through a light fitting, stay out of that room and leave the power off until we have had a look.

The tap generally sits just inside the front fence. Turn it clockwise until it stops.

If it is tracking toward power points or an appliance, switch the power off at the main switch if it is safe to reach.

Rugs, boxes and anything off the floor in the water's path, then soak up what has spread.

Describe what you can see and whether the meter tap is closed. We will walk you through the rest while we get a Taigum plumber out to you.
$0 call-out fees, available 24/7, and same-day where we can.

A split line rarely announces itself politely. These signs say burst rather than slow leak:
, rather than one sluggish fixture.
with the whole house turned off.
, pointing at the hot water line.
through dry weather.
, days after the last rain.
One sign alone is worth a call. Two together is worth a call now.

A short list is worth checking yourself, and none of it involves opening anything. Start with the meter:
With every tap and appliance off, the dial should sit still. If it keeps turning, water is moving where it should not be.
A warm or damp patch marks the run beneath it.
Water pooling at its base is a tank problem, not a pipe split, and the isolation valve on the cold inlet is its shut-off.
Do not lift floorboards, cut into plaster or dig in the yard hunting the source. A split under pressure keeps moving water, and opening things up is our job.

Ring straight away when water cannot be switched off at a tap, when it drips through the ceiling above, or when it sits close to power points. The meter shut-off is your bridge until we arrive.
Some jobs look urgent but sit one rung down:
If the dial sits still and the damp patch is dry to the touch, it can wait for a booked visit. Ring (07) 3067 4119 either way and we will tell you which it is.

The ground and the housing stock here both put pipes under strain. Three local factors do most of the damage:
The soils mapped for this suburb include reactive clay that expands during the wet months, contracts through the dry, and drags buried joints out of alignment.
Low land beside Cabbage Tree Creek stays waterlogged through the seasons, with acid sulfate soil in the low pockets, so any hole dug near the creek fills fast.
The complexes along Handford Road were fitted to a single spec, so flexi hoses and mixers wear out unit by unit on the same schedule, and a burst hose under an upstairs basin can drip through the wall cavity and show up as a stain downstairs.
None of that changes the fix. It changes how carefully we isolate before we open anything.
The work splits into four jobs depending on where the water is coming from, and here is how each one runs:

We close a seized or buried meter tap for you, drain the line down, and confirm every fixture in the house, tap by tap, runs dry before any repair work begins.

The damaged section gets cut out and replaced with matching pipe, then carefully pressure tested, whether the run sits under a sink, behind a wall or out in the garden.

Split braided hoses under basins and laundry tubs get swapped for new, along with the isolating valves that should have shut them off, across the townhouse rows and detached houses.

Water tracking along a wall or under a slab gets pinned down by isolation testing, and the quote sets out which section needs opening before concrete or plaster comes up.

Four causes cover nearly every burst pipe call we take, from the smallest fix to the biggest job:
A braided hose past its life span splits without warning, usually at the crimp, which is why we check every hose in the cabinet while we are on site anyway.
In this soil, reactive clay moves with the seasons and works joints loose on older runs, so we pressure test the repaired line before the job is declared finished.
Acidic groundwater near the creek corrodes buried steel parts and concrete pits, so any line routed through that low ground here can fail at a joint well before its time.
Roots forcing a joint apart, or building rubble on a line, can crack a pipe rather than block it, and a camera pass shows which one you are dealing with.

Water damage does not sit still while you think about it, and the gap between a fast call and a slow one shows up in the bill:
Water soaking into plaster, carpet and chipboard flooring keeps wicking outwards, so a shut-off tonight costs less than the same shut-off tomorrow morning.
A split buried in a wall cavity or beneath the slab can run for days before it surfaces, which is why the meter dial matters and why we shut the water off before any digging starts.
A patch on a pinholed run just moves the next split a metre down the line, so we say when a section swap is the better fix.

Call (07) 3067 4119 and explain what's happening in Taigum. A few quick questions let us load the right parts for the first visit.

Flat-rate pricing with no hidden fees, agreed before any work starts. Once you approve it, we get going.

Our plumber shuts the water at the meter or the isolation tap, drains the pressure out of the line, then cuts out the split section and fits a replacement joint.

Use card or EFTPOS on site when the job is finished, or ask us about Fix now, pay later.

None of that changes because the job is urgent. Shut the water off, call early, and the rest becomes a booked job instead of a salvage job.
Jobs in Taigum come with zero call-out fees, and there's no extra fee for nights, weekends or public holidays.

The work is backed by our Fix-It-or-It's-Free guarantee (T&Cs apply), and if we're late, $100 comes off your bill.

Locally owned and operated, licensed and insured, with flat-rate pricing.
Pipes split on both sides of every suburb line, so our run also takes in Deagon, Boondall, Zillmere and Fitzgibbon, and a plumber already working one of those streets is often the closest one to your meter tap.
Most blocks here have the meter tap near the front boundary; shut it fully clockwise, then open a garden tap outside to relieve the pressure in the pipes before you call.
The public water mains in the street are Urban Utilities' responsibility, while here in Taigum each pipe on your side of that connection is the owner's to look after.
Only if the meter is fully closed and no water is reaching power points or a ceiling, otherwise call, because a split line under pressure keeps filling a wall or slab cavity.
It can, because reactive clay swells and shrinks through wet and dry spells, dragging buried pipe joints out of line, and the older runs near the creek fringe cop the worst.
We isolate and test the run section by section to pin it first, which matters on the creek-side ground here where any dig-up fills with water, and the quote covers the opening.
